I snarled and stepped forward, raising my hand slightly. "You're making a momentous mistake, human," I growled.

"If you want to fight me werewolf, then bring it on. Yeah, I'm not stupid. I know you're not human, neither is she, or her mixed breed of a brother..." the boy chuckled. I growled and stood up again. I went to punch him again, but he slapped me hard again before I even could. This time I didn't fall, but I did rock. I knew it was best to just stop...

I shrugged. "Okay, you've had enough warnings." I stepped forward and swung my fist with all the fifteen-year-old werewolf strength I could muster - and heard an audible crack. I thought it might have been his jaw, but I couldn't tell for sure.

The two remaining guys that had stuck around grabbed the other boy and they ran off. "Jerks..." I muttered under my breath as I rubbed my cheek. "Thanks..." I said softly to Cole. He really didn't have to do that. I was only defending my little brother.

I rolled my eyes. "Don't mention it. It was quite fun, actually. So..." I pulled out her schedule again, which was unruffled despite the drama. "Did you get a map?"

"Uh.... I think so..." I said searching through my pockets and finally found one. "Oh here it is." I said handing it to him.

"Good. That makes things easier." I shaded in the classrooms she would need in pen, then marked the periods beside them. "There," I said, handing it back to her.

"Thanks again." I said and the bell rung. "Well I better go to my class. I'll see you around..." I said as I turned and left.

"Later." I smirked and turned away - and came face to face with my Lydia. "Hello, little sister," I said brightly. "Save it," she snapped. Uh-oh. I couldn't help smirking, although I knew she was furious. "Ah... you must have just witnessed the scene there." "Yeah, I did." Lydia rolled her eyes. "Why can't you stay out of trouble?" "You sound like the mother we never had. I'm going to class." I was hardly above ditching, but class was a good excuse. I started down one of the hallways. Of course, she followed me.
{Lyra} So... completely... freaking... pointless. I thought each word in time with the soft thud my dark boots left in the empty hallways. Yeah, I was pretty late right now. No, I didn't care, because I was sure that any teacher in this forsaken place could either be charmed or intimidating into overlooking the occasional tardy. I could pretty much handle anyone who tried to mess me with me on my first day of school. High school. I'd never really bothered with it, although according to my real age I should have graduated by now. Never really got the concept. In a place like Amenia, a formal education wasn't going to help you much - now, if they had battle training classes, that would be a lot more useful. But of course not. They were dull and they were routine and they were pretty lifeless. Still, if the two people I was trying to track really were here, then it was worth it... I supposed. It was definitely going to get old, though, attending school alongside nothing but a bunch of idiotic humans. "Cole, just tell me you didn't shift to beat that guy. Tell me that!" I jumped suddenly as I heard voices in the empty hall, then ducked easily out of the way into the shadows, raising my eyebrows coolly. Tell me you didn't shift. So, maybe not all idiotic humans... "I didn't need to," the other guy - Cole, I assumed - replied as they came into view. He was dressed in dark clothing, much the same style as mine, with a heavy leather coat even though the temperature in the building was temperate. Style, I assumed. My eyebrows shot up. He was definitely the type I'd like as an ally. As I watched, he turned to grin at the girl beside him. "He was pretty pathetic, little sister." "I'm not your little sister," she snapped. The other girl was a lot smaller and daintier, with long hair that seemed both curly and wavy, and piercing green eyes. She looked different from the guy who had called her his sister. Very different. She was dressed a lot more lightly, though not exactly girly, and the fluid grace to her movements marked her as a vampire instantly. "Cole, you can't just fight people." "Uh... yeah, I can. Nobody enforces the rules here, if there are any rules. And besides, he deserved it. A lot." I grew officially tired of hiding in the shadows and listening to this brother-sister conversation, intriguing as it may be. I stepped out of the classroom and in front of them and inclined my head, studying them for a minute, my true calculating, controlled insanity shining through my eyes for a minute - and then I grinned, and the look was banished in the light of my act. "Hello, there," I said casually, though not too brightly. No need to alarm them... yet." The vamp girl's eyes narrowed immediately, and I raised an eyebrow. So she had the natural Amenia paranoia. Huh. She must have seen the real side of this town, which meant she officially wasn't one of the preppy clueless people... even vampires could be completely unaware of the darkness that lurked in this screwed-up town. Idiots. "Hi," she said, her voice friendly but casual. "Um... did you just happen to overhear that?" "And deduce that he's a werewolf? And that you're a vamp? Yeah, I did." I shrugged, and smiled with all my teeth, briefly flashing my fangs. "Don't worry. I won't tell anyone." "Thanks." The girl seemed to have thawed; there was genuine warmth in her smile as she extended her hand. "I'm Lydia Markus, and the delinquent here is my brother." Cole rolled his eyes but said nothing. In any case, I wasn't paying attention to him anymore. I froze. Did she just say Lydia Markus? It all clicked together in an instant: these were the two people I'd been searching for. My half-sister and my half-brother. Wow... that was even easier than I expected. Now all I had to do was deceive them into trusting me... shouldn't be too hard. I was a superb actor. I shook her hand, smiling cordially. "I'm Lyra Collins. It's nice to meet you." "You, too," Lydia said, sounding as if she meant it. "Um, you seem new. You need any help getting to class or anything? I blinked. My half-sister was nice? After all I'd learned about Lucian? "My wonderfully charitable sister," Cole muttered. "Befriending all the new bloodsuckers." That was a lot closer to what I expected. "Hey, I'm a bloodsucker," Lydia reminded him sharply, and sighed. "Sorry about my brother." "It's fine. He bites, I bite back," I said - no particular emphasis, but worded in such a way that it made even Cole narrow his eyes and take me seriously, although Lydia detected nothing. You'd better... brother, I thought with a smirk, and then turned to Lydia. "Help would be great, by the way. Thanks."

{End Of The Day} When the last bell of the day finally rung we all headed out of our classes. Kids were rushing to their lockers, buses, or cars. They all just wanted to hurry and leave. I slowly made my way out, searching for a familiar face. Not surprisingly I saw Cole. "Hey, I just wanted to thank you again. Earlier I was just defending my brother. He's half vampire and half werewolf. Kids just always pick on him. He's also a year younger, and since he's smart he skipped a grade...." I said to him wondering why I was constantly thanking him. I just really wanted to talk to him. "Do you think we could maybe hang out sometime?" I asked softly, and then hoped he hadn't heard that. Of course he did though. He's a werewolf.

I chuckled and shrugged. "Why not?" I heard soft footsteps behind me and, without turning, smirked. "Meet my little sister."
{Lydia} "Twin sister," I snapped, coming up behind him, then smiled politely at the other girl. "Hello," I said quietly, extending my hand in greeting. "I'm Lydia."

"I'm Roxanne." I said. I knew this girl was a vampire. I just really didn't like to associate with them. I knew I wanted to be polite, and just shake her hand, but inside it felt so wrong. I just refrained altogether.

I shrugged and let my hand drop, then crossed my arms. "It's nice to meet you," I said calmly.

"You too..." I said softly. I then felt my sister approach. I turned automatically. "Oh hey sister. Why are you hanging out with a mutt like him?" Venus asked when she finally found me. I narrowed my eyes at her.

{Cole} I rolled my eyes. "Mutt? Really? Yeah, I wish I had a nickel for every time I've heard that... or half-breed... or dog... I would think you would be more creative, leech," I growled.
{Lydia} I sighed. "Here we go..." I muttered under my breath. As long as Cole were here, there would be no hope for any kind of harmony.
