{Sorina} I shook my head. "There's no telling here," I muttered darkly.
{Lucian} I raised an eyebrow. "Okay, I've dealt with cryptic, criminally insane bloodsuckers before, and you don't know how annoying it is. So how about you go ahead and tell me who he is?" I put air quotes around "he".

Rayne laughed. "Oh, so she hasn't told you? I wouldn't expect her too though, would I? I'd keep it a secret as well." She shook her head, smiling sweetly. "You'll just have to ask Lista when she wakes up. I won't give away anyone's secrets, not even your little human's friends. I suppose she'll tell you if she wants." She giggled. "Funny how you're going to protect her, yet you really don't know her at all." Rayne leaned casually against the door frame.
Amalia glanced back at Kalista. "Everyone has their secrets..." Suddenly she paled. "Rayne, you aren't daring to.....? Please don't tell me that you're up to that again?"
"I choose to use my gifts, Lia. Unlike you."
"That's because he's evil!" Amalia spat.
Rayne smiled softly. "Oh, but he isn't the one who gave you them. He killed Ralia and Valira."
"He. Is. Evil. You can't be suggesting that Kalista.." Amalia turned completely white.
Rayne snickered. "You catch on quick. And yes, they have a history. Probably not one you'd want to know. He never did like his family much, did he?" With that Rayne waved and flounced off.
"Oh God. Oh. My. God." Amalia simply stood there for several moments in total shock. Suddenly she seemed to snap back to attention, darting over to Kalista and placing a hand on her forehead. "Shell wake up in a bit. Two, maybe three minutes." Amalia murmured, forcing herself not to probe Kalista's mind.

{Lucian} I snarled and stepped forward, grabbing her arm in a tight grip. "Good, so maybe that will give you time to tell us what the hell is going on." "Lucian, chill," Sorina snapped from behind me. I ignored her and she stepped forward, grabbing my arm hard. "Chill," she repeated. I wasn't really in the mood to argue with my soulmate. "Fine," I snapped, stepping back. I kept my arms crossed, my eyes shining brightly with fury. Sorina rolled her eyes. "So what is going on?" she asked, her voice far more mild than mine.

"Jasper Price." Amalia rubbed her wrist. "I can only tell you what I know. kalista will have to tell you the rest. When I was about 12 years old I met Jasper. He had been here on a business trip, and gotten changed into a vampire. He was teamed up with a witch named Valira, and a vampire girl that was about seven years old named Ralia. He recruited Rayne and I to be his helpers, and Valira gave us....gifts. We can read peoples minds, among other little quirks. Let's just say that he turned out to be evil, so we left. Apparently he killed Valira and Ralia, and Rayn is his messenger." Amalia coughed uncomfortably. "And I think that Jasper might have a connection with Kalista."
Kalista, who had just woken up, stiffened, her eyes growing instantly guarded and her actions a bit to cheerful. "Huh, guess evil miss nludsucker didn't Jill me after all!" She forced a smile, the china doll appearance thinner than usual.

{Sorina} "Evidently not," Lucian muttered, not sounding particularly pleased. I resisted the urge to smack his arm and narrowed my eyes at Kalista. "Yes, and by the way, you have some explaining to do," I said, my voice soft and lethal. I may have seemed to be nice, soft, and human, but that was only a front. I had killed before, when driven to it.

"Um, no. I don't think I do. I told you I had reasons for being here, but I sure as he'll am not telling you what they are." Her blue eyes flickered, the china doll completely gone and repled by the iron mask. The flame in their blue depths was now completely revealed, the survival instinct up and working, Kalista falling deeper into her protective wall that she had built over her lifetime. Kalista wasn't ready to relive that time in her life. Even weak from bloodless, she pressed against the wall, calculating an escape. With her skin pale from blood loss her scars became more visible. Running along her arms and a few on her face. Indistinct white lines, and the most prominent one, slashing through her eyebrow and diagonally to her hairline. And hidden behind the fire in her gaze, barely noticeable, pain lingered mixed with fear.

{Lucian} I rolled my eyes and glanced at Sorina. "May I?" I asked sarcastically. When she didn't bother to respond, I sprang forward, grabbing the top of Kalista's arm tightly. I pulled her close to me, not taking any chance that she might escape. My lips curled back from my teeth. "You will explain what the hell is going on here, and you will now, or I will make this day a whole lot worse for you," I growled through my teeth.

"Nope. You can stab me, hit me, kick me, strangle me, maybe even bash me across the head with that pretty new vase you picked up in India on your last business trip. You can put me into a coma, burn me, attempt to drown me, hospitalize me even. Maybe you might succeed in killing me, god knows that bastard almost did." She laughed a dark, cold laugh that sounded half strangled. "But I won't talk. I won't make a sound and I'll hide behind my pretty little mask and it'll all be okay. Yet you still won't know will you? No sir, you won't. Because I'm not telling you. I'm not reliving that." With the last few words her voice darkened, softening to a cold, emotionless whisper.
Amalia tentatively touched Kalista hand, then jerked her fingers back as though they had been burned. "Let her go Lucian. Let her go right now." Amalia was staring at Kalista as she spoke."She doesn't want to tell you."

{Lucian} I growled, briefly tightening my grip on the girl's arm, then reluctantly stepped back. "Very well," I muttered, my voice soft and cold. I hated to give up, but I recognized a lost cause when I saw one. Sorina stepped forward, lightly touching the human girl's arm. "What happened? Why won't you tell us?" she asked quietly. I rolled my eyes. She was way too nice.

Kalista spoke in a tight, controlled voice. "Because I will not- can not- relive that, okay?" Her voice softened slightly at the word 'okay'. Bruises were already starting to form from where Lucian had gripped her arm. Kalista watched as the bruises slowly appeared, gently brushed her fingers across the marks, then pulled her knees against her chest, the wall still completely up. She was rigid, keeping Lucian warily in her peripheral vision.
Amalia looked at Kalista, reaching out to comfort her.
"Don't touch me, mind reader." Kalista spoke in a low, warning voice. "You've already learned more than I was willing to tell anyone ever." Kalista also managed to move from Sorina's touch without it looking like she was trying to. It was hard enough having someone touch her at all, let alone in the rather weak state she was in now.

{Sorina} I sighed sadly and drew back, crossing my arms. Couldn't I just know one person who didn't have a screwed-up, depressing past? Even I did. I shook my head. "You don't have to tell us if you don't want to, Kalista. Trust me, it was ages before I would tell Lucian and Crystal what happened to me. Talking about it feels like going through it all over again. I know, trust me. I completely went to pieces." I stepped back, avoiding her gaze. OOC}} Go here if you want to know. "Guess I'm not the only messed up one here am I? Comforting." Her eyes were dull and hollow looking, her voice totally flat. Kalista stood, still a little weak but not about to show it. "I'm just going to go home." Glancing at the bruises as if in shock, she stood there, the purple black markings looking so much like the ones from years ago. She eyed Lucian warily, noting that the exit was behind him. Taking a deep breath, she tried to convince herself that he wasn't the same as her father.....but still, she couldn't get the sight of those bruises to leave her mind. Giving Lucian a wide berth, Kalista exited the gym before anyone else could say anything.
Amalia stared after her. "Oops..." She murmured softly. She straightened up, and muttered softly to herself, seeming to forget that Lucian and Sorina were there. "Am I the only one here who doesn't have an abusive father?" Grimacing, she crossed her arms.

{Sorina} I shrugged. "Can't help you out there. Mine was," I said, throwing up a wall in my mind to keep the memories from unexpectedly washing over me. "And I didn't know my real father," Lucian said, shrugging, "But my adoptive one tried to kill my little brother."

Amalia shrugged. "I have to be going as well. Sorry, I've got a brother to find."

{Sorina} I nodded sadly. "Good luck," I said softly, and slipped out of the gym, trying to at least get to my last period class on time. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Lucian slip out the back door towards the woods, and smirked.
